Week 14

Activity: Create several sample ads following the specific requirements of FaceBook, Twitter or other social media platform you want to utilize. The ads should target the specific market you are interested in pursuing. Include a call to action to encourage people to visit your website, read your blog, and like your page.
Write a Blog Post: Make screen shots of your ads and include them into your blog post. Explain why they would be effective.
Explain in your post: What is an objective? Explain which type of ad objective makes the most sense for your business and why.
Help for creating ads:

Again-- if your business is not real, or you don't have a budget for an ad right now, just create one, get a screen shot and post that in your blog. You don't have to go that last step and pay...

This is my first attempt at an Instagram promotion.  First I had to create a post with the event information and post it.  Following the posting there is a promotion link you can select.  Through trial and error I was able to figure out that I could select a call to action, this was actually a requirement and I chose "Sign up".  I was able to select a regional area, I was not able to get any more specific than San Diego.  It would be nice to have the option to select a more specific area within SD to target.  I was able to select the interests of my target demographic, the age range and male, female or all.  After I previewed the ad the first time I discovered I needed to edit the post.  In order to edit the post you do loose all of the saved information.  During my second preview I found another edit.  Rather than start all over again this time I chose to complete the promotion.  Upon completion I discovered they do not let you further edit the post.  I added the time the event is scheduled for in the comments.  I don't love that you can not easily link to a FB event listing within an Instagram post.  I also think it would be much faster and easier if you were able to post on Instagram with the computer rather than having to type everything on the small phone screen.
My call to action is to ask the reader to RSVP on our FB page of the same handle.
It would also be great if Eventbrite and Instagram where more compatible.
The objective of this promoted post is to make the public aware of the FREE Fixit Clinic we will be holding at Second Chance Brewery on May 13th.  The purpose of the event is to teach people how to mend and repair damaged or broken items rather than discarding them to the landfill.  We provide the tools and the volunteers, they get to enjoy a great venue and learn how to repair their broken item.  Hopefully they have a great experience even if the item is beyond repair and learn about making purchasing decisions for repair and reuse rather than discard and maybe they get involved as a future volunteer or supporter.
The ad should be effective since I chose to target market to people who have expressed interest in DIY, upcycling, reuse, repair, fixit, environment, and zero waste.  My concern is that the platform did not allow me to target market to as small a region in San Diego as I would have liked.  Our venue is located in Rancho Bernardo and San Diego was the narrowest  region I could select.  It would be more effective to allow the business to select a radius around the venue in our case.  RB is located adjacent to the City of Poway and Ramona and Escondido are not that very far off but is unlikely that a user in Little Italy or South Park would travel to RB, nor would be want them to.  We rotate our events quarterly throughout San Diego.  It would be more effective if we could more specifically target geographically.  On the up side, perhaps we will develop recognition in other parts of SD so the audience will be ready for us when we set up shop in their neighborhood.
It made the most sense to try the Instagram ad since we have been on FB for years and used FB post boosts in the past.  From what we have learned in class, Instagram is returning more engagement at the moment and our FB account is linked so the post will be seen there as well but it would not promoted via Instagram had I only used the boost post option on FB.
I will be curious to see the analytics.

  1. The company I work for is American Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning and, unfortunately, we don't use Instagram. We currently have a Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts. Last year we lacked web presence and this year we have come a long ways and still working hard to improve daily! Instagram may be a good medium to use as well!

Advertising an event is a great idea that helps get the message out and boost your company's morale as well as web presence! We also have out Facebook and Twitter accounts linked. This helps keep everyone in the loop! Nice ad! I like how inviting it is!
